The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM)







 

SOCHUM, also known as Social Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, was first created in 1945 under the establishment of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. SOCHUM focuses on human rights and other issues that arise on an international stage by examining human rights questions and reports of special procedures of the Human Rights Council, established in 2006. The committee works to prevent and solve disputes and conflicts pertaining to relevant social and humanitarian issues

Ananya Podder is a senior at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School. She has been doing Model UN for the past four years and has won the Country Statement Award at the GCI-LAU MUN in 2023. Outside of Model UN, Ananya is the Director of AI Initiatives in a non-profit organization called She Codes Cures, an international tutor for the ENGin organization where she has tutored students from Ukraine in the English language, and the President and Co-Founder of the Asian and Pacific Islander Union at her school. Alisha Mehta is a senior at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School. She has been apart of the CJCP Model United Nations since 10th grade and is so excited to be apart of the first conference hosted by CJCP. Throughout her time in Model United Nations she was able to meet new individuals around the world, exchange ideas to combat real world conflicts, and make new friends! Gaining valuable experience and knowledge. Fun Fact: Alisha enjoys listening to music, spending time with her friends, and working at a law firm.
